Project to replace KY 1106 bridge in Bath County begins March 16
Bridge, road will be closed for 45 days

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (March 6, 2020) – The KY 1106 bridge over Flat Creek in Bath County will be closed this month as contractors work to replace its superstructure.

Beginning Monday, March 16, contractors will close the KY 1106 (Mount Pleasant Road) bridge at milepoint 3.3 just east of the Sanderson Road intersection near Bethel. The bridge's concrete driving surface and support beams will be removed and replaced with a new, longer-lasting superstructure.

The bridge will remain closed for up to 45 days for the work, which could impact up to 230 vehicles per day – the average traffic on the highway.

During construction, motorists may detour using KY 36 and KY 11 through Sharpsburg and Bethel. Local traffic may also use KY 3288, but with caution as the road is narrow.

The project is part of a $2.7 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract that includes six bridge replacements under the Bridging Kentucky program.

Bridging Kentucky is a commitment to improve the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth's bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing critical bridges throughout the Commonwealth. The program is designed to open closed structures, improve bridge lifespans and ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
