Traffic advisory: High water impacting Greenup, Boyd county highways
Backwater on KY 2, KY 1021; flood gates still up in Catlettsburg

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (11 AM, Feb. 14, 2020) – The Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 reports high water impacting roadways in northeast Kentucky:

-       KY 2 in Greenup County at milepoint 13.5, water in or over the roadway between the Jeremy Gullett Bridge and Thelma Road, four miles west of US 23 at Greenup. The Little Sandy River is out of its banks due to backwater from the rising Ohio River.

-       KY 3294 (Center Street) at 20th Street in Catlettsburg, milepoint 9. The flood gate is up, and is likely to remain up through Tuesday, according to the city. The road will remain closed. Motorists should reroute along US 23 and use US 60 or local streets to enter downtown Catlettsburg.

-       KY 1021 in Lewis County at Quincy (milepoint 3-4), due to backwater on Briary Branch from the Ohio River.

Water could remain high for several days as the Ohio River is not expected to crest until tonight. Backwater could also block roads in other areas, especially low-lying areas that are susceptible to flooding when the Ohio River is at flood stage.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, heed all warning signs and barricades, and never drive through high water over any roadway.

High water previously reported on KY 1, KY 784, and KY 503 in Greenup County has receded.
