City of Carlisle awarded $168,380 in discretionary funds for roadway improvements
Resurfacing on five city streets

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2019) – While visiting Carlisle on Wednesday, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Department of Rural and Municipal Aid Commissioner Gray Tomblyn II announced $168,380 in discretionary funds has been awarded to the city for resurfacing. The investment supports Governor Matt Bevin's commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.

"The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention," said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. "This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have a large impact in communities."

Carlisle Mayor Ronnie Clark identified these roads as being among the most critical in the city.

"I would like to take this time to thank Governor Bevin, Commissioner Gray Tomblyn, Nick Van Over and the Flemingsburg district office for enhancing the lives of our citizens by giving us the resources to pave our streets that are in dire need of repair," said Mayor Clark.

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.

The upcoming work will resurface five streets, benefiting more than 100 homes in the city.

The Carlisle City Council is responsible for administering the project, and KYTC will reimburse the city for the work.

Work will address:

  • Sycamore Street (City Street 1006 ) – resurfacing, from milepoints 0 to 0.196
  • Rayne Street (City Street 1083 ) – resurfacing, from milepoints 0 to 182
  • Dorsey Avenue (City Street 1096 ) – resurfacing, from milepoints 0 to 0.280
