Bridge replacement begins May 20 on KY 681 at Buchannan in Fleming County
Bridge, road to close until late July

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (May 9, 2019) – Construction of a new KY 681 (Buchannan Road) bridge over Delaney Creek in Fleming County will begin this month with a road closure.

Contractors expect to close the existing KY 681 bridge just past (north of) Delaney Road on May 20. Crews will then demolish the bridge and build a new structure over the next two months. The new bridge – and roadway – is scheduled to reopen by the end of July.

During the bridge replacement project, all KY 681 traffic will be detoured using Delaney Road, KY 165, Mount Tabor Road and Wright Road. Motorists should follow detour signs and message boards.

The project is being done under a $994,208.16 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to RGF, Inc., under the Bridging Kentucky program.

The program is a commitment to improve safety and soundness of the Commonwealth's bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing more than 1,000 critical structures in all 120 Kentucky counties over the next six years.

The program will open previously closed structures, improve bridge lifespans and ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians. For more information on Bridging Kentucky, or to access a public feedback form on these and other projects, please visit http://BridgingKentucky.com.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
