Boyd County Fiscal Court awarded $589,021 in discretionary funds for critical pavement improvements
Resurfacing repairs to be made to two area roads

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (April 10, 2019) – During Tuesday's Boyd County Fiscal Court meeting, Department of Rural and Municipal Aid officials announced $589,021 in discretionary funds for vital resurfacing work on Straight Creek and Tarpin Ridge. The more than half a million dollar investment supports Governor Matt Bevin's commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.

"The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention," said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Greg Thomas. "This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have large impacts to communities."

These roads were identified as being among the most critical in the county.

"This is a great day for the people of Boyd County," said Boyd County Judge-Executive Eric Chaney. "We appreciate the consideration from Governor Bevin's Administration for our community receiving these funds.  This is a substantial amount compared to years past and I think it is a direct correlation to our working relationship with those in Frankfort.  We appreciate the relationships with Rep. Danny Bentley, Rep. Terri Branham Clark, Governor Bevin's Administration, and other leaders in Frankfort."

Resurfacing repairs will address existing surface cracks, potholes, rutting, crumbling shoulders and base failures.

"Normal wear and tear, along with Mother Nature, has taken its toll on the roads in Boyd County," said Sen. Robin Webb. "I appreciate this Administration taking necessary steps to ensure our communities have properly maintained infrastructure for further economic development. These discretionary funds are important in the upkeep of our roads that affect everyday travelers."

Boyd County Representatives Danny Bentley and Terri Branham Clark also expressed appreciation for the significant investment to repair county roads.

"Improving our roads and bridges is a top priority of mine, and I'm excited to see the infrastructure needs of Boyd County being prioritized by Governor Bevin," said Rep. Bentley. "I want to thank the Transportation Cabinet for taking on these critical resurfacing projects, which will improve safety and mobility for our residents."

"It has been a priority of mine to increase funding for road improvements in Boyd County," said Rep. Branham Clark. "I applaud Governor Bevin for the investment of nearly $600,000 in discretionary funding to resurface Straight Creek Road and Tarpin Ridge. We have many roads throughout the 100th District that need repair and I will continue to work with the Administration and our local officials for the needed improvements."

The Boyd County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.

Resurfacing work will address:

  • Straight Creek Road (CR 1243) from milepoint 0.00 to milepoint 4.14
  • Tarpin Ridge Road (County Road 1004) from milepoint 0.00 to milepoint 2.15
