KY 3056 to remain closed after rock slide near Maysville
Repair project being developed

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Feb. 12, 2019) – As a traffic safety precaution, KY 3056 in Mason County will remain closed at a rock slide location near Maysville until repairs can be made later this year.

In late January, hillside rock fall occurred on KY 3056 just east of Jersey Ridge. The Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 immediately closed the highway for cleanup and damage assessment.

Since then, highway engineers have determined that an extensive repair project is needed, which could take until this summer to develop.

Engineers considered temporary countermeasures such as hillside barricades with one-lane traffic and portable signals.

However, further analysis indicates the risk of continued rock falls is too great, and KY 3056 will remain closed at the damage location between mile markers 6.5 and 7 — about two tenths of a mile east of the Jersey Ridge Road intersection.

Motorists should continue to detour using KY 8 and US 68, or other routes. (If you normally use KY 3056 from downtown Maysville to access Ashwood Drive, Winton Woods Drive, Vernon Street, etc., you will need to detour.) For safety reasons, motorists are asked not to drive around or move barricades.

The affected portion of KY 3056 serves about 500 vehicles per day.
