Improvements starting on Christy Creek Road (KY 32) in Rowan County
Part of $1.4 million state project
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2018) – Work is starting on a $1.4 million highway improvement project along 5 miles of Christy Creek Road (KY 32) in Rowan County.
The work includes sight-distance improvements, new drainage pipes and culverts, and new blacktop on KY 32 from US 60 at Morehead (milepoint 8.5) east to Veterans Lane (milepoint 13.6), which is about a mile west of KY 3318-Open Fork.
Contractors installed construction signs this week, and expect to begin hillside excavations next week, the week of Dec. 10, near Patties Lick Road (milepoint 11.9) to improve sight distance on the highway – that is, increase how far drivers can see around the curve there.
Motorists should watch for intermittent one-lane traffic, with flaggers directing traffic during daytime construction. Some work later in the winter will require temporary traffic signals. Other traffic changes will be announced as work progresses into the spring and summer of 2019. Contractors have until Nov. 30 to complete the project.
Work is being done under a $1,406,981.94 low-bid HSIP (highway safety improvement project) contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to the Frederick & May Construction Company.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
