Work begins on US 60, KY 7 bridge improvements in Carter, Elliott counties
Part of 7-bridge, $900,000 project

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Aug. 6, 2018) – Work starts this week on bridge improvements on US 60 in downtown Grayson in Carter County and on KY 7 in Elliott County -- part of a 7-bridge, $900,000 restoration project.

Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 7, US 60 will be one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals across the Little Sandy River bridge in downtown Grayson (milepoint 24.5) as contractors begin bridge deck pavement repairs.

Also on Tuesday, work will start on KY 7 in Elliott County where traffic will be one-lane with temporary signals across the Doctors Branch bridge just south of the KY 650 intersection. A similar bridge project, with one-lane traffic, is currently under way on KY 7 across the Little Sandy River in downtown Sandy Hook.

Motorists should expect heavy traffic and possible delays where bridges are under construction. Motorists should watch message boards for schedule changes.

Work is complete on a KY 1661 bridge in Carter County. Work on four other bridges in northeast Kentucky will follow:

  • KY 1013 bridge over Fox Creek in Fleming County
  • KY 57 bridge over Somerset Creek in Nicholas County
  • KY 377 bridge over Brushy Creek in Rowan County

Traffic changes will be announced prior to construction. All work is being done under a $936,049.79 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to M&M Services Co. Inc.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
