KY 36 closed in Bath County on Thursday, next week for culvert replacements
Part of state safety improvement project

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (June 6, 2018) – Weather permitting, contractors will close KY 36 in Bath County this Thursday and again for three days next week for culvert replacements.

On Thursday, June 7, KY 36 will be closed at milepoint 9.8 just east – on the Owingsville side – of White Oak Road (KY 1944) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to replace a large culvert pipe.

Then next week, from 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, June 13, KY 36 will be closed at milepoint 9.3 just west – on the Sharpsburg side – of White Oak Road (KY 1944) to excavate the roadway and replace a deteriorated concrete box culvert with a new aluminum arch culvert.

During construction, motorists may detour using KY 1325, KY 1602, KY 111, and US 60. Motorists should watch electronic message boards for schedule changes.

The work is part of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project that began last fall. The project includes replacement of nearly 30 drainage pipes and culverts along 4 miles of KY 36 between US 60 at Owingsville (mile marker 12) and Powers Branch Road (mile marker 8) near the KY 1325 intersection.

The pipe replacements, and additional construction, will allow for wider shoulders and improved crash recovery on the highway.

During construction, traffic will be maintained as much as possible but KY 36 will be one lane or closed at times. Message boards will be used to communicate construction schedules. Local traffic moving between Sharpsburg or KY 11 and Owingsville can reroute using KY 1198 or KY 3289 and US 60 to avoid delays. Commercial traffic should reroute on main highways – KY 11, US 60, I-64 through Mt. Sterling.

This project, which joins a similar KY 36 project completed earlier in 2017, is being done under a $568,181.70 low-bid contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
