Work begins on new turn lanes at US 23 and 12th Street in Catlettsburg
Part of $900,000 safety improvement

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (May 31, 2018) – Contractors expect to begin work next week, the week of June 4, on a $900,000 state highway improvement project at the US 23 and 12th Street intersection in Catlettsburg.

Work includes installation of right- and left-turn lanes on US 23 leading into 12th Street as well as blacktop and pavement marking improvements. Turn lanes improve safety at intersections by separating thru traffic from turning traffic, which reduces the risk of rear-end or other collisions.

During construction, motorists should expect daily lane closures with one-lane flagged traffic at times on US 23 and 12th Street. Due to the high volume of traffic on US 23, lengthy delays are likely. Motorists should plan travel accordingly.

The project is being done under $855,940.02 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to Mountain Enterprises Inc. The contractor has 34 working days to complete the project.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
