KY 36 closed in Bath County this week for culvert replacement
Wednesday thru Friday

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (May 30, 2018) – A culvert replacement on KY 36 in Bath County will require the highway to be closed west of Owingsville for three days this week.

Beginning today, Wednesday, May 30, and continuing until 6 p.m. Friday evening, June 1, contractors will close KY 36 to all traffic at milepoint 8.6 – about 3 miles west of Owingsville – to excavate the roadway and replace a deteriorated concrete box culvert with a new aluminum arch culvert.

Motorists should reroute using the signed detour via KY 1325, KY 1602, KY 111, and US 60. Large trucks and commercial traffic needing to connect between Sharpsburg and Owingsville should reroute through Mt. Sterling using KY 11 and I-64 or US 60.

The construction is part of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project that began last fall. The project includes replacement of nearly 30 drainage pipes and culverts along 4 miles of KY 36 between US 60 at Owingsville (mile marker 12) and Powers Branch Road (mile marker 8) near the KY 1325 intersection. The pipe replacements and additional work will allow for wider shoulders and improved crash recovery on the highway.

This project, which joins a similar KY 36 project completed earlier in 2017, is being done under a $568,181.70 low-bid contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
