KY 36 closed in Bath County next week for culvert replacements
Work now scheduled for April 2-5

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (March 29, 2018) – Culvert replacements on KY 36 in Bath County will require the highway to be closed west of Owingsville for several days next week.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, and continuing Thursday night, April 5, contractors will close KY 36 to all traffic near mile marker 8.8 — about a half mile west of the KY 1944 intersection — to excavate the roadway and replace two deteriorated concrete box culvert with new aluminum arch culverts. Motorists should reroute using the signed detour via KY 1325, KY 1602, KY 111, and US 60.

The work, which has been postponed several times due to inclement weather, is part of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project that began last fall. The project includes replacement of nearly 30 drainage pipes and culverts along 4 miles of KY 36 between US 60 at Owingsville (mile marker 12) and Powers Branch Road (mile marker 8) near the KY 1325 intersection.

The pipe replacements, and additional construction, will allow for wider shoulders and improved crash recovery on the highway.

This project, which joins a similar KY 36 project completed earlier in 2017, is being done under a $568,181.70 low-bid contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
