Interstate 71 ramp closure in Oldham County to begin October 29
Ramp closure to allow for bridge repairs
Louisville, KY (Oct. 18, 2018) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming ramp closure on Interstate 71 in Oldham County. The ramp from KY 146 (LaGrange Road) onto I-71 North in Buckner will be closed due to construction on a bridge that crosses the interstate. Contract crews will be replacing a pier cap and some expansion joints on the KY 146 overpass at mile marker 17.4.
The entrance ramp from KY 146 to I-71 North is scheduled for closure on Monday evening, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. Crews will be changing the roadway striping in preparation for a traffic shift in the work zone. The right lane of I-71 North will also be closed that evening. The entrance ramp and all lanes of I-71 North will be reopened by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
This ramp will close again on Tuesday evening, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and will remain closed for approximately two months. The right lane of I-71 North will also be closed that night while crews install barrier wall at this interchange. Motorists on KY 146 that need to access I-71 North should follow the signed detour via KY 146 East to KY 393 South and then access the interstate.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-71 North during the majority of this work. Traffic will be shifted to the left and the shoulder will be used as a driving lane. The lane widths will be reduced from 12 feet to 11 feet. The speed limit in this work zone will be reduced to 60 MPH.
In addition, some lane closures will be necessary on KY 146 during a portion of this work. A temporary signal will be installed to direct traffic through the work zone.
This construction is part of a $2.5 million contract for painting ten bridges on Interstate 71 in Jefferson and Oldham Counties. Work began in April on I-71 at Zorn Avenue in Jefferson County and has proceeded north. The project also includes various deck and joint repairs on some of the bridges including the KY 146 bridge over I-71. Repairs to the KY 146 overpass are scheduled for completion in late December and the structure will be painted in the spring of 2019.
This contract was awarded to Seminole Equipment Incorporated of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
