Interstate 65 weekend roadwork in Jefferson County June 28-July 1
Louisville, KY (June 28, 2019) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of roadwork in two locations this weekend on Interstate 65 in Jefferson County. One ongoing construction project and one maintenance project will require lane closures and one ramp closure.
Rain and thunderstorms postponed last weekend's bridge repairs on I-65 North in the collector-distributor lane over I-264 (Watterson Expressway). This work is now scheduled from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 28 until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 1. The entrance ramp from KY 61 (Preston Highway) to I-65 North will also be closed during this work.
This collector-distributor lane, located at mile marker 130.7, will close for a few hours on Friday evening while crews install barrier walls. The closure will be necessary again on Sunday night to remove the barriers. During these closure periods, traffic will be diverted via I-264.
Replacement of a concrete slab on I-65 North between the Outer Loop and Fern Valley Road (mile marker 126.7 to 128.2) will also take place this weekend. The roadway will be reduced to two lanes from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 28 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. The speed limit in this work zone will also be reduced to 55 MPH.
Once crews have poured the new concrete, the lane closure must remain in place to allow the concrete to cure. Motorists may not see any workers on site during this curing time.
Drivers on I-65 should slow down approaching these work zones and watch for highway workers in the adjacent lanes.
