Inroads FAQ - Pavement Blocks
| Q. How do I get Inroads to put a pavement block
on my cross section? |
| A. You can accomplish this through a little
manipulation of your template. Load your projects template
library, then choose Define Template located on the Design
Roadway Palette. Edit the template(s) that you will be
using for your roadway. If you have not already done so, add an
active layer to represent the bottom of the subgrade - this shows
the depth of pavement. Make sure that this subgrade information
is on the backbone of your template. Also set the superelevation
range points and pivot points on the backbone. Now edit the left
cut. Input a segment with a .001 master unit Width and a 10,000 %
Slope and add it. Vertical surfaces in DTMs are not supported by
Inroads. By using a extremely high slope segment, you can get
near vertical results and get around the no vertical surface
rule. Repeat the addition of this small near vertical segment to
the right cut, left fill, and right fill. Save the template file
before close out of Define Template. Now choose Roadway
Modeler off of the Design Roadway Palette. Choose Setup>Roadway.
The Subgrade Intercept should be on "first
layer". This makes Inroads extend the subgrade layer until
it intercepts the first layer. Therefore the near vertical
segment is taken to the first layer and creates a pavement block.
Note: While you are in Setup>Roadway, if you are
using superelevation be sure to toggle on Superelevate all
Layers and then the pavement block will superelevate.
