SUBJECT:                  Metal End Sections
Type 1 and Type 2 (Parrallel Structures)
Type 3 and Type 3 (Cross Structures)

Metal End Sections are now available for use on all projects, and may be used when roadside slopes require safety end structures.

Metal End Sections Type 1 and Type 2 should be used on structures that are parallel to the roadway centerline. Metal End Section Type 1 should be used on approaches with 1:6 slopes. Metal End Section Type 2 should be used on approaches with 1:10 slopes. According to the Roadside Design Guide a 1:6 slope on a parallel structure is acceptable, however 1:10 slopes should be considered when structures are available.

Metal End Sections Type 3 and Type 4 should be used on structures that are perpendicular to the centerline of the roadway (cross structures). Metal End Section Type 3 should be used on cross structures that are installed on 1:4 slopes. Metal End Section Type 4 should be used on cross structures that are installed on 1:6 slopes.

Full size reproducibles for use in roadway plans are available upon request from the Division of Highway Design, Standard Drawing Section.
