Driving Without Insurance

Driving without personal liability insurance is against the law, and there are penalties for violators.  If your personal vehicle is identified as uninsured, the vehicle’s registration will automatically be canceled thirty days after you receive an Uninsured Notice from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Department of Motor Vehicle Regulation.  Registration will not be restored until proof of insurance is provided to your County Clerk.

Bottom line? The law requires that “before the owner of a motor vehicle or trailer may operate it or permit its operation upon the highways of this state, he shall obtain motor vehicle insurance… as required by KRS 304.39-080…” (KRS 186A.065 Prerequisites for operation of motor vehicles or trailers).
