Safe Patrol

The Safety Assistance for Freeway Emergencies (Safe) Patrol is designed to aid motorists and assist with incident management.

As part of  the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Division of Incident Management,
it is  part of a comprehensive incident management initiative to improve safety and reduce delay caused by nonrecurring congestion and improve operations of the freeway system. 


 How Much and When?

How much:
The service is free of charge; however, if a wrecker is required, the motorist is responsible for payment.
Safe Patrol operates 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM,
7 days a week.​

 What services does the Safe Patrol offer?

Operators assist motorists and offer following services: 
- Gasoline and oil for those in need
- Add air to tires or change flat tires
- Provide a "jump" for dead batteries
- Other minor automotive repairs
In addition, Safe Patrol Operators perform these services: 
- Assist law enforcement by directing traffic
- Remove debris from the roadway
- Monitor infrastructure for suspicious activities
- Check and tag abandoned vehicles

FRANKFORT, Ky. (January, 2015)  –
SAFE Patrol Operators help drivers on every interstate and parkway. When it's freezing
out, they want to get those drivers out of
 the cold.
