State wants your help in planning KY 57 improvements in Lewis County
Public meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12, 5-7 at Tollesboro Elementary

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2019) – How would you improve KY 57 in Lewis County between the Fleming County line and the AA Highway at Tollesboro?

That's the question Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers will ask Tuesday, Feb. 12, during a public "blank slate" meeting at Tollesboro Elementary School.

The meeting, set for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the school's gym, is the first step in a proposed project to enhance the roadway to meet future traffic demands and improve safety. It's called a blank slate meeting because the Cabinet has no designs or changes planned yet.

"Basically, we want the public, the drivers, and residents who rely on this highway to draw out or list ideas for what highway improvements are needed," said Darrin Eldridge, project development branch manager at Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 in Flemingsburg.

The segment of KY 57 under study lies between the Fleming-Lewis county line and the AA Highway at Tollesboro, approximately mile markers 0 to 4.5. Any project developed would be a continuation of the corridor improvements that are ongoing between I-64 in Mt. Sterling and Flemingsburg to the Fleming-Lewis county line.

Representatives from District 9 and from its engineering consultant, Gresham Smith of Lexington, will be at the Feb. 12 meeting to discuss the project, gather public comments and answer questions. They will also ask questions about current issues along the highway such as crashes, right of way concerns, or cemetery locations, and gather other data.

Again, the state highway department will have no plans to show. This meeting is the first step in developing those plans – by asking the public for their ideas.

There is no formal agenda. Anyone may attend at any time during the two hours of the meeting, 5-7 p.m., to make comments and be heard. Attendees may also sign up for a mailing list to stay informed about the project.
