Project to Replace Low Water Crossing on KY 1247 in Pulaski County Moving Forward

Demolition of the current crossing at Pitman Creek scheduled to begin tomorrow

SOMERSET, Ky. (March 10, 2021) – The project to replace a low water crossing on KY 1247 in Pulaski County is moving forward. Demolition of the current structure is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Thursday, March 11.

The crossing over Pitman Creek (mile point 18.089) closed on January 14 following a statewide load rating analysis of select steel culverts. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) bridge preservation engineers determined the closure necessary due to deterioration of the steel pipes and insufficient supporting material above the pipes.

The detour using U.S. 27 will remain in place until the new structure is complete and the roadway reopens.

Work is expected to be completed in approximately 4 weeks. The start date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.

A low-water crossing provides a roadway over a stream and can become quickly impassable when the stream rises.
