Transportation Cabinet plans to improve Interstate 64 pavement
Work under way in Bath, Rowan counties
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2013) – Contractors have started two projects in a multi-million-dollar Transportation Cabinet plan to improve Interstate 64 in eastern Kentucky this year.
Work on I-64 is now under way in Bath County between mile markers 117 and 124 near Owingsville and in Rowan County between mile markers 134 and 138 near Morehead.
Contractors are currently working off the roadway. Only minimal traffic impacts, such as shoulder closures, are expected. Bridge repairs and blacktop resurfacing will follow later this winter and in the spring, both of which will require lane closures. Traffic changes will be announced. Motorists are advised to watch for warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
The contract for the Bath County work was awarded to the Walker Company of Kentucky Inc. for its low bid of $5,951,375. Work in Rowan County is being done under a $4,046,928.02 contract with Hinkle Contracting Company LLC.
