New US 68-Downing Drive signal activation set for Friday
Watch traffic pattern changes on AA Highway

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2013) – A new traffic signal at the AA Highway (KY 9) intersection with Downing Drive and US 68 exit ramps in Maysville will become fully operational Friday, Nov. 1.

The signal, which has been in warning flash mode for several weeks, stemmed from a traffic study of the new AA Highway interchange after it opened earlier this year as part of the $21.5 million project to build a new section of US 68 from Washington to the Clyde Barbour Parkway. Traffic counts showed the intersection met Federal Highway Administration guidelines for a traffic control signal, and construction began this summer.

With wiring and electrical components now complete, contractors and highway crews will switch the signal from flash mode to fully operational Friday morning.

Motorists should drive with caution and pay attention to signal conditions, which will control traffic in all four directions at the interchange – from and to Downing Drive, the US 68 on- and off-ramps, and northbound and southbound lanes of the AA Highway. Motorists will need to adhere to signal indications such as red lights, and left turning traffic will need to yield to through traffic. Advance warning flashers will alert drivers on the AA Highway when the signal is about to turn red.
