Bridge repairs to close KY 773 next week, April 23-26
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (April 19, 2013) – Kentucky Department of Highways crews will make repairs to one of the Little Sandy River bridges on KY 773 in Carter County next week, requiring daily road closures and detours.
The bridge, the second one on KY 773 as you travel from Grayson to Hitchins, is located at mile marker 1.2 just south of Vincent Road.
While inspecting the bridge this week, Transportation Cabinet engineers found steel beam deterioration within one approach span and immediately posted a 3-ton weight limit as a safety precaution. Engineers assessed the situation today and have determined that structural repairs can alleviate that weight restriction.
Beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, repair crews will close the bridge to all traffic. It will remain closed until 6 p.m., and will be closed Wednesday, April 24, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Thursday, April 25, the bridge will again be closed at 8 a.m., and will remain closed overnight until repairs are complete Friday – weather permitting.
During the closures, traffic may detour using the following state highways: KY 7, KY 1, KY 1444 or other routes.
Road work is subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, drive carefully in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
