Advisory: KY 57 closed late Friday, July 25, to early Monday, July 28, north of Flemingsburg for culvert work
Part of safety improvement project
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (July 21, 2014) – The replacement of two large culverts along KY 57 will require the state highway’s closure to all thru traffic north of Flemingsburg next weekend, July 25-28.
As part of a continuing safety improvement project, the Kentucky Department of Highways has granted ASL Excavating permission to close KY 57 from approximately 750 feet south of Maddox Pike north to the bridge over Logan Run. The closure will start at 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, and continue until 6 a.m. Monday, July 28.
During the closure, contractors will dig through KY 57 to install two 72-inch diameter culverts. Because of the excavation’s size, and safety issues, the roadway must be closed to all traffic.
Residents may access locations up to the area of the closure – and local route connections to KY 597, KY 3301 and KY 559 into Flemingsburg are available – but all thru traffic, commercial vehicles and trucks with trailers should use the marked detour along KY 11, in the following manner:
· Northbound on KY 57 from Flemingsburg – Take the Flemingsburg bypass to KY 11 north (or access KY 11 from downtown), and travel north toward Maysville; at KY 9 (AA Highway) turn south (right) to reach KY 57 at Tollesboro.
· Southbound on KY 57 from Tollesboro – Use KY 9 (AA Highway) north toward Maysville to reach KY 11; turn south toward Flemingsburg, then access KY 57 from the Flemingsburg bypass or downtown.
Contractors will work to reopen the road as quickly as possible. Motorists should watch message boards for traffic announcements. If the roadway is opened early, it will be posted. Otherwise, the closure will continue from 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, until 6 a.m. Monday, July 28.
Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
