Interstate 264 ramp closure scheduled for February 8-11
Louisville, KY (February 6, 2013) – With a forecast free of winter precipitation, work can begin this weekend on concrete repairs to Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) in the area between Browns Lane and Westport Road (mile points 18.4 and 20.7).
The first phase of construction will be concrete repairs on the ramp from eastbound I-264 to westbound I-64 (Exit 19B). This ramp will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8 until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11. Motorists should follow the signed detour for this ramp closure via the Westport Road interchange.
In addition, the right lane of westbound I-64 will be closed this weekend at the bridge over I-264 (mile point 12.4). This lane closure will allow for replacement of the approach pavement at both ends of the bridge.
The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 45 MPH and double fines will be enforced.
The construction work includes replacing some sections of pavement that have settled over time resulting in uneven driving lanes. This project also includes repairs to ramps in the I-64/I-264 interchange.
For the next few weeks, concrete repairs will be taking place primarily on weekends. Lane and ramp closures are possible from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 a.m. on Monday.
When diamond grinding of the pavement begins later in the project, lane and ramp closures are possible on weeknights Monday – Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
Hall Contracting, Inc. was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $8.1 million. The work is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2013.
