Painting to Begin on Clark Memorial Bridge
Indiana approach to receive new coat of paint
Louisville, KY (April 16, 2013) – Motorists crossing the Ohio River on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge will soon see construction signs again. Work is scheduled to begin the week of April 21 for painting the Indiana approach. Structure steel and sidewalk repairs on this section of the bridge were completed earlier this spring.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded a contract in December for painting the northern approach of the Clark Memorial Bridge which carries US 31 across the Ohio River.
Work will begin next week underneath the bridge painting the structural steel. As the project progresses, some lane or sidewalk closures on the bridge may be necessary. Lane closures will be restricted to evenings from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following morning. To avoid conflicts with Kentucky Derby Festival events, lane and sidewalk closures are not allowed until May 6.
In addition, the contractor can close East Market Street and East Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville, IN for up to fourteen days. These roads will not be closed simultaneously and advance notice will be given to the public.
Approximately 15,000 vehicles cross this bridge each day.
G Force Contracting was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $494,494. Construction is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2013.
The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
