Closure of Interstate 64 in Shelby County scheduled for March 27 & 28
Interstate lanes to be closed for bridge demolition
Louisville, KY (March 26, 2013) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 Office advises motorists that Interstate 64 in Shelby County will be closed for demolition of the Joyes Station Road bridges. This work is part of the I-64 widening project from the welcome center to ½ mile east of KY 55 (mile points 27.9 to 32.8).
The eastbound lanes of I-64 will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 until 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28. Motorists must follow the signed detour via KY 1848 (Exit 28), proceeding north to US 60. Signs will direct motorists east on US 60 to KY 55 and then reconnect them with eastbound I-64.
The welcome center/rest area will be closed during the closure of eastbound I-64.
The westbound lanes of I-64 will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 until 5:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29. Motorists must follow the signed detour via KY 55 (Exit 32), proceeding north to US 60. Signs will direct motorists west on US 60 to KY 1848 and then reconnect them with westbound I-64.
Louisville Paving Company was awarded the contract in 2012 for this project in the amount of $37.5 million. Construction is scheduled for completion by April 30, 2014.
