Lane closures on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County July 9-11

Louisville, KY (July 3, 2014) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists that a section of Interstate 65 in Bullitt County will be reduced to one lane during two nights next week.  Contract crews will be making a traffic switch in the work zone between the Bullitt/Hardin County line and Lebanon Junction Road (mile points 103.3 to 105.9).  Lane closures are necessary for changing the pavement markings in this area.

Northbound I-65 will be reduced to one lane from 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 until 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10.  Lane closures on southbound I-65 are scheduled from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 until 5:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11.

This work is part of $20.7 million project for removal and replacement of various sections of concrete pavement across a 20-mile section of I-65.  Construction began in March and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.

Two lanes of traffic are being maintained in each direction through the work zone.  A temporary median cross-over is currently being used between mile points 106 and 112. One lane of traffic is shifted to the southbound lanes while crews replace the pavement in the northbound lanes (see schematic below).  Northbound traffic is separated from southbound traffic by a concrete median barrier wall.

Northbound I-65 motorists exiting at KY 245 (Exit 112) must stay in the right lane during this phase of construction.

Once this work is complete, traffic will use the newly paved northbound lanes while repairs are made in the southbound lanes.

The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 55 MPH and double fines are being enforced.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5.
