KY 2885 bridge replacement project in Spencer County to begin in July

Louisville, KY (June 1, 2017) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) recently awarded a contract for the replacement of the KY 2885 (West River Road) bridge over Simpson Creek (mile marker 2.6) in Spencer County. This bridge is located near the intersection with Netherton Lane.

RGF Inc. of Flemingsburg, Ky. was awarded this contract in amount of $617,000. Work is scheduled to begin after July 4 to replace this deteriorating bridge, which was built in 1970. The new bridge deck will have a higher elevation than the existing bridge to help prevent flooding from Simpson Creek during heavy rains.

KY 2885 will be closed later this summer during construction. Advanced notice will be provided prior to the road closure. A signed detour will be posted via KY 55 and KY 652.

This project is scheduled for completion in September 2017.

Emergency road aid funds provided for culvert replacement

KYTC is also providing $38,000 in Rural Secondary Road Aid emergency funds for replacement of a culvert located on KY 2885 adjacent to the bridge replacement project.

“The Bevin administration is committed to the Cabinet’s mission of providing a safe, reliable transportation network for all Kentuckians,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas.  “These emergency funds will help repair and restore damaged infrastructure throughout this community.”

State forces are responsible for administering the work which will take place during the road closure for the bridge replacement project.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5 .
