Transportation Cabinet awards four contracts for highway projects in two District 10 counties
JACKSON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded four contracts totaling more than $5.7 million for highway projects within the Department of Highways District 10. Included are bridge replacement, rockfall mitigation and bridge repair projects in two counties.
 
Contracts awarded as part of September 2013 letting are:
  • A $3,611.068.90 contract for rockfall mitigation along KY 3231 (Lakeside Drive) in Breathitt County. The project is to be completed within 185 working days from the date work begins.
  • A $1,422,535.50 project to replace a bridge over Troublesome Creek on KY 476 in Perry County. The project is to be completed within 135 working days from the date work begins.
  • A $243,985.70 project for bridge deck restoration and waterproofing on a bridge over Leatherwood Creek on KY 699 in Perry County. The work is to be completed by Nov. 15.
  • A $468.750 project for cleaning and painting a bridge over the CSX Transportation railroad line on Business KY 15 in Perry County. The work is to be completed by July 31.
 
The Department of Highways District 10 consists of 10 counties – Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Powell and Wolfe – in east-central and southeastern Kentucky. The district office is located in Jackson.
 
Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to drive with caution in work zones and be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in areas where projects are ongoing.
 
Significant traffic impacts resulting from construction and maintenance projects are posted on District 10’s website (http://transportation.ky.gov/District-10), the district’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict10) and also on the district’s Twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/KYTCDistrict10). Drivers can check these sites prior to traveling to determine if there will be traffic delays for which they should be prepared.
